Bible verse of the day...Matthew 6:19-21 (NIV)

"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." Matthew 6:19-21 (NIV)

My reflection of the verse

This verse reminds me that everything we have here on earth are temporary. We should not be too attached with the materials things we possess because in time it will deteriorate. God tells us that we should focus on making treasures in His kingdom because no one can take that away from us. Therefore, we should start storing our treasures in heaven because definitely we can have it when we come home to God's kingdom.

Bible verse of the day... Psalm 80:19 (NIV)

Restore us, O LORD God Almighty; make your face shine upon us, that we may be saved. Psalm 80:19 (NIV)

My reflection of the verse

When we are broken and felt that we don't have the courage to face what is in front of us because of fear, etc. We just have to lean on to Jesus and ask Him to strengthen us. He will save us from whatever burdens we have and protect us from it. I believe that Jesus shines His light upon us during the darkest moments of our lives.

Bible verse of the day...Matthew 19:26 (NIV)

Jesus looked at them and said, "With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible." Matthew 19:26 (NIV)

My reflection of the verse

Many times Jesus has proven me this verse. I mean He has shown me literally what He meant by this verse. I have had experiences which I can't do anything about it but He made it possible. For instance, finishing school, good grades, etc. I have achieved many things in my young life because it was all of God's doing. Without Him, I don't think I will achieve any because I can't do it alone. He guided me all throughout my life and I have always asked for His wisdom, knowledge and understanding. I'm very grateful to Jesus and will always be grateful for the things He has done for me. I believe that Jesus has done the same thing with others because He loves each and every one of us.

Bible verse of the day...Acts 5:29 (NIV)

Peter and the other apostles replied: "We must obey God rather than men! Acts 5:29 (NIV)

My reflection of the verse

I sincerely admire people who are obedient to God and are willing to fight for Him. It is right to obey Jesus instead of obeying men. For instance, God says that we should observe Sabbath day, however, your boss would ask you to work on a Sabbath. On this case, whom will you obey? Of course God! It may be hard but as responsible Christians we should put God first in whatever we do. He controls our lives and provides our every need. Hence, we should obey and please Him.

Bible verse of the day...Hebrews 11:1,3 (NIV)

Faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. ... By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God's command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible. Hebrews 11:1,3 (NIV)

My reflection of the verse

As I pondered on the verse today , I wondered if most of God's children live by faith and not by sight. God has shown man all kinds of wonders and He even went down from heaven to show His love. Sadly, for many it's not enough. It reminds me of Thomas , one of Jesus' disciples. When Jesus resurrected and visited His disciples, Thomas was not around. The disciples told him that Jesus has risen but he did not believe. Then, Jesus appeared and he believed. Jesus has said blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.[John 20:24-29] The verses also speak about faith. We should have faith in Jesus even though we do not see Him. We should trust Him with all our hearts and should not worry what comes along because God has always been faithful to us and will never forsake us.

Bible verse of the day...Luke 5:27-28 (NIV)

After this, Jesus went out and saw a tax collector by the name of Levi sitting at his tax booth. "Follow me," Jesus said to him, and Levi got up, left everything and followed him. Luke 5:27-28 (NIV)

My reflection of the verse

It is a great honor for someone to be called by God and being told to follow Him. Levi did the right thing by following Jesus and leaving everything behind. When we follow Him we become more blessed because He provides us with everything. By following Him also means leaving our old sinful ways and making ourselves a living sacrifice by submitting according to His will.

Bible verse of the day...John 5:25 (NIV)

I tell you the truth, a time is coming and has now come when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God and those who hear will live. John 5:25 (NIV)

My reflection of the verse

Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will come again and take away His faithful servants into His kingdom. Even the dead people who are worthy of Him will rise up and live for eternity. This verse is related to other verses in the bible about Jesus' coming and He will come without us knowing when. The term rapture is associated with this verse and other verses although we cannot find the exact word in the bible. However, rapture means the taking away or the assumption of God's children into heaven (as defined in Merriam Webster Dictionary). God will meet them in the clouds to spare them from harm that will come upon the earth. Although many will be left behind because of several reasons. So, I think we should always be ready because any time of the day Jesus will call upon His children to live with Him in heaven.

Saturday, May 24, 2008

Worship the LORD your God, and his blessing will be on your food and water. I will take away sickness from among you, and none will miscarry or be barren in your land. I will give you a full life span. Exodus 23:25-26 (NIV)

My reflection of verse

We should worship our Almighty God alone and no one else. He has done wonderful things which no false god can do. He will bless us with so many good things in life not only the things we need but also we things we want if we truly and sincerely worship Him. If we are suffering from sickness He will take it away and heal us. God always fulfill His promises and He never fails. Let us love, worship and praise Him alone,so, He will bless us for the rest of our lives.

Bible verse of the day...2 Chronicles 7:14 (NIV)

If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14 (NIV)

My reflection of the verse

God says that if His children would come to Him with humble hearts, pray to Him and sincerely seek Him, and turn away from sinning, then, He will listen to their prayers. Our God Almighty will also forgive the sins of His people and heal their land from whatever sickness or trouble it maybe experiencing. I think we are blessed to have a Creator who truly loves us and the best thing we could do is to obey Him until our days are over on the earth.

Bible verse of the day...Matthew 16:27 (NIV)

For the Son of Man is going to come in his Father's glory with his angels, and then he will reward each person according to what he has done. Matthew 16:27 (NIV)

My reflection of the verse

Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will come again like a thief in the night although we do not know when. He will reward us based on what we have done. Before He comes I think we should be prepared and do what we must do. As His children, we should observe the laws and commandments He has given us. We should also turn away from sin and live a life that is right and just. It is also our duty to help others to know Him and bring them to God. I hope and pray that when Jesus comes He will bring all His children into His kingdom.

Bible verse of the day...1 Corinthians 9:24-27 (NIV)

Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. Therefore I do not run like a man running aimlessly; I do not fight like a man beating the air. No, I beat my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize. 1 Corinthians 9:24-27 (NIV)

My reflection of the verse

This is a verse which challenges everybody to strive hard in order to get eternal life with God. It is not easy to aim for a prize because it requires rigorous training and self-sacrifice. For instance, if you are an athlete for the upcoming Olympic Games, you need to wake up very early in the morning to train. It requires a lot of discipline and long hours of practice. Same with aiming for the golden crown. We should not waste time doing nothing but rather, we should accept God's challenge to do His commandments and share the good news to others. Proclaiming His goodness and gospel may not be easy because many does not accept His words. There are times that God's adversary will do things that are just the opposite of what God does that would affect us somehow. However, we should not be discourage because we know that God is with us. It really takes a lot of pain but it's worth taking to have that golden crown.

Bible verse of the day...Mark 5:34 (NIV)

He said to her, "Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering." Mark 5:34 (NIV)

My reflection of the verse

This is an inspiring verse for all of us. When we look at Chapter 5 from verses 21 - 34 (Book of Mark) we can see that a man named Jairus asked Jesus to come to his house because his little daughter was dying. There was a huge crowd and then, a woman who was bleeding for 12 years was in the crowd. She touched Jesus' cloak. Then, Jesus asked who touched His clothes and this woman came to Jesus, hence, He said this words to her. It's amazing how our faith in Jesus can do. As children of God, we should live by faith and not by sight. There are many instances that call on our faith and we would feel better if we put everything in His hands. He controls everything around us and we should cast our care in Him. We should not worry about what will happen today or tomorrow because He is in command of everything. The only thing we should do is to have faith in God.

Bible verse of the day...Romans 12:9-10 (NIV)

Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves. Romans 12:9-10 (NIV)

My reflection of the verse

We should learn how to love one another even though we differ in our views about life, religion, race, age, and gender. The kind of love we must have for our brothers should be genuine and not superficial. God loves us sincerely and He would want us to do the same with our neighbors, friends and family. Further, He command us to hate evil and do what is good and just. Doing what is right in the eyes of God and man is one of the best things we can do for God.

Bible verse of the day...Luke 12:4-5 (NIV)

"I tell you, my friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body and after that can do no more. But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear him who, after the killing of the body, has power to throw you into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear him." Luke 12:4-5 (NIV)

My reflection of the verse

Most of us are afraid of dying. It's a human nature. We really don't know when we will die and how we will die. Some may die due to sickness, some caused by accidents, some killed by someone, and some simply die of old age. However, this verse is telling us not to be afraid of someone who can kill our body. We do not want to imagine being killed by someone. But then, God is telling us that we should not be afraid of that person because he may kill us physically but not spiritually. Instead, we should fear God. If a man has devoted his life to God and feared Him because He is his King, I think there is no way for him to be separated from God after his physical death. He will live with his creator for eternity and that it the most important thing of all.

Bible verse of the day...Proverbs 10:12 (NIV)

Hatred stirs up dissension, but love covers over all wrongs. Proverbs 10:12 (NIV)

My reflection of the verse

It is true that when a person has hatred in his heart it usually results in disagreement with the other person. Oftentimes when someone hates a person he seeks the faults or wrong doings made by the person he hates. Sometimes hating someone makes them say things they don't mean. But what do we really get from hating other people? I think nothing good comes out of it. We should love our fellowmen despite our differences. Love makes the world a better place to live in and by loving others we are able to forgive the mistakes done against us. Hence, I do believe that love do covers all wrongs.

Bible verse of the day...Isaiah 52:7 (NIV)

How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation, who say to Zion, "Your God reigns!" Isaiah 52:7 (NIV)

My reflection of the verse

It is good to see people who are passionate about God. I'm glad to see a brother or sister who proclaims God's words to other people, sharing the great things He has done for him /her, live a peaceful life with his/her neighbors, and telling others that we have salvation through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. As children of God we should also tell others that God lives and reigns forever. I think God wants us to do these things always and we should be willing to spread the good news about Him too.

Bible verse of the day...Proverbs 10:18 (NIV)

He who conceals his hatred has lying lips, and whoever spreads slander is a fool. Proverbs 10:18 (NIV)

My reflection of the verse

In this verse God is telling us that we should not conceal our hatred with someone. I think the reason behind this verse is that when we hate someone our hearts and minds think negative things about the person we hate. We should be open about our feelings to the person we had a misunderstanding with. It's better to talk it out before the end of the day and learn how to forgive. Usually, when a person hate someone he has the tendency of spreading bad things about the person. It's not proper to say bad things about others whether it is true or not. We should refrain from saying negative things, and then, later on regret what has been said. Hence, hating is not good and we should avoid it.

Bible verse of the day...Daniel 6:3-5 (NIV)

Now Daniel so distinguished himself among the administrators and the satraps by his exceptional qualities that the king planned to set him over the whole kingdom. At this, the administrators and the satraps tried to find grounds for charges against Daniel in his conduct of government affairs, but they were unable to do so. They could find no corruption in him, because he was trustworthy and neither corrupt nor negligent. Finally these men said, "We will never find any basis for charges against this man Daniel unless it has something to do with the law of his God." Daniel 6:3-5 (NIV)

My reflection of the verse

This is a very inspiring verse because it reminds me how good Daniel was. I have always liked Daniel as one of the bible characters because he was a faithful servant of God. He worshiped God alone and had never prayed to any god except to God Almighty. However, many envied him because he was a righteous man and no fault could be found in him. If we read the entire chapter (Chapter 6) we could see how these satraps influenced the king to make a decree which says that for 30 days no one will pray to any god or man, otherwise, he will be thrown into the lion's den. But Daniel never obeyed that law because he knew that it was not right. He continued praying to God, three times a day, in his room with his windows open facing Jerusalem. It is great to know how someone so faithful to God would never bow down or pray to any god or man even though he knew he would be put to death. God has also been faithful to Daniel because He saved his life and proved to the king that God Almighty is the ONLY true God. With this verse, I hope all of us would follow Daniel's example and would always remain faithful to God.

Bible verse of the day...Exodus 20:10 (NIV)

But the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your manservant or maidservant, nor your animals, nor the alien within your gates. Exodus 20:10 (NIV)

My reflection of the verse

Man is given six days to do his work, however, it is mandatory for him to rest on the seventh day. We may ask what should we do during the seventh day? Well, I think we should offer this day for the LORD. It means that we should spend time going to our churches, attend bible studies, attend worship service and other church activities. In this verse, it is also stated that we should include all our family members including our maids and visitors at home. We should encourage everybody inside our own house to go to church and rest during this day. God wants us to spend our time with Him alone on Sabbath day. He has given us so much blessings every week. Hence, He deserves one day of praise and worship.

Bible verse of the day...Psalm 42:11(NIV)

Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God. Psalm 42:11(NIV)

My reflection of the verse

There are times that we have many problems that we tend to worry too much on anything. Sometimes we are so bothered with it that we would have difficulty of sleeping at night. Then, eventually we end up hopeless and depressed. However, we should always remember that in times of trouble there is always God who is willing to help us in whatever situation we maybe experiencing. He is our hope and we should never give up.

Bible verse of the day...James 3:16 (NIV)

Where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice. James 3:16 (NIV)

My reflection of the verse

Many of us have ambitions in life. It maybe for our selves or for our families. There are many good ambitions to think of like for instance, finishing a degree in order to have a bright future or ambition to be financial stable, etc. It really depends on the person. However, there are also ambitions that are brought about by jealousy or selfish reasons. According to this verse it is not good to have this kind of ambition because oftentimes it ends up with many evil results. God wants us to have an ambition that is not self-centered and selfish. There should be no envy in our hearts too because when we have it, it causes a lot of problems. I think our ambitions in life should be God-centered because it's important to put Him first in our lives.

Bible verse of the day...Deuteronomy 5:6-7 (NIV)

I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. You shall have no other gods before me. Deuteronomy 5:6-7 (NIV)

My reflection of the verse

Our God is a very jealous God. He said it in Exodus 20 because He doesn't want us to have other gods except Him. There are many people who worship so many idols and have many gods. Jesus doesn't like it because we should only worship Him sincerely. He has done many miracles for us and even died for us on the cross for our sins. So, why should we need some false gods? Our God is a living God who can make many wonders and had done many great things for us. Hence, we don't need any other gods except our Lord God Almighty.

Bible verse of the day...Proverbs 18:6 (NIV)

A fool's lips bring him strife, and his mouth invites a beating. Proverbs 18:6

My reflection of the verse

This verse reminds us that we should not imitate a foolish man who is not cautious with his words and inflict harm on others or to himself. There are some people who are not careful with what they say. Oftentimes they talk without thinking and continue on saying things which may hurt other people. As children of God, we should always be careful every time we open our mouth in order to avoid any problem with God and fellowmen. We should always remember that whatever we do or say we should be able to glorify Jesus.

Monday, May 5, 2008

Bible verse of the day...Malachi 3:10 (NIV)

Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this," says the LORD Almighty, "and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it. Malachi 3:10 (NIV)

My reflection of the verse

Every Sabbath day it is required of us to offer our tithes and offering to God. Whatever we have earned or have received for the entire week such as our income from work or business it is mandatory to give back to God what He has given us. I think the reason behind this is that the house of God should have some funds for its activities or missions and that includes the funds for church workers like the ministers, etc. Our Almighty God is a great provider. We should not be selfish for what He has given us. I think it would be embarrassing if we don't give Him back what we have received. If we give God 10% of our tithes, He will return it a hundred folds. I think we should also give Him our tithes with sincere hearts because God loves a cheerful giver. Further, we should always give what is best to God because He deserves it.

Bible verse of the day... Psalm 5:3 (NIV)

In the morning, O LORD, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait in expectation. Psalm 5:3 (NIV)

My reflection of the verse

Everyday of our lives from the moment we wake up until we go to sleep we always receive God's mercy. It's a wonderful blessing that we are given the chance to do the things that He wants us to do. So, starting our day with a prayer of thanksgiving is a nice way of thanking God for this great blessing. We may also include in our prayers the things we need or want. God hears our prayers and whatever His answer to our prayers we should be able to accept them. The answer maybe yes or no. But even if God says no, we should try to understand that it is for our own good. We expect that God will heed our request but sometimes we have to face reality that not all prayer requests are granted because God has a reason why His answer is not positive. But it doesn't mean that we will not pray anymore just because we were disappointed with His answer. We need to pray to Jesus because He always hears us whatever it is that we pray for.

Bible verse of the day...Matthew 6:33 (NIV)

Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Matthew 6:33 (NIV)

My reflection of the verse

Our first priority in life should be Jesus. It's imperative for us to seek Him before we seek other things. Studying His words, meditating on it, praying to Him, and following His commandments are the things we should do as His children. If we do these things everything else will follow. Meaning we will be blessed and the things we need will be supplied by Him. Hence, Jesus should always be on top of our priority list, otherwise, everything may not be easy for us.
